Guest Speaker at the CME Conference Focused on Endoscopic Spine Surgery – Aster MIMS Kottakkal
I was so pleased to hear about my invitation as a Guest Speaker for the CME (Continuing Medical Education) Conference focusing on Endoscopic Spine Surgery held by Aster MIMS Kottakkal. The program was meant to be an academic forum with the goal of sharing emerging concepts, learning techniques, and building relationships between neurosurgeons and spinal specialists in all parts of India.
As part of the scientific sessions, I had the opportunity to give a talk on navigating the early challenges of interlaminar endoscopy, that fits well into my clinical practice at Aster Medcity in Kochi. As a Neurosurgeon focusing on minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, I have witnessed the profound effect of these approaches on both patient recovery and surgical outcomes.
Overview of my session
In my session, I focused on all of the most common issues spine surgeons wrestle with when transitioning to interlaminar endoscopy - and especially learning the important technical aspects of vision, access, and decompression through a small operative corridor. I emphasized progressive learning, good patient selection, knowledge of the anatomy, and access to mentorship when starting this learning trajectory.
Through case examples and intraoperative context, I spoke about the rational for a stepwise approach to endoscopic spine surgery, the value for both the surgeon and the patient, and when this may not be the best approach.
